I've no idea either but it does appear to be some sort of reaction wood. It appears to be multiple small trunks that fused together given the appearance of alternating heartwood and sapwood. In addition, it appears to have a second, common sapwood lighter in tone than the other. The black appears to be some sort of staining.

Either that or petrified cow dung (coprolite).
